The Migraine Market

About 12% of Americans – or nearly 30 million people – suffer from migraine, an illness characterized by a variety of symptoms including sharp throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head, nausea or vomiting, visual disturbances and sensitivity to noise and light. Migraine is a chronic condition that significantly disrupts lives and impairs social functioning. The availability of newer migraine treatments, such as the triptan class, has not fully met the needs of migraine sufferers. Migraines are estimated to cost American employers more than $24 billion annually in lost productivity.
